Factual error: The actual Tsavo lions responsible for the killings had no manes - see for yourself; they are on display at the Field Museum in Chicago. [The filmmakers employed artistic license in using maned lions. They were also certain to include - at the very end of the movie - footage of the real Tsavo man eaters, as they appear in the Field Museum.]

The Ghost and the Darkness (a mostly true story) is about a pair of male mane-less lions who go on a man-hunting spree while a railroad is being built in Africa. Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas star as hired hunters in this action/adventure thriller where the lions are given almost superhuman attributes as the terror mounts along with the body count. Decent film.
Charles Remington: Oh, you're right. The devil has come to Tsavo. Look at me! I am the devil.
Trivia: Col Patterson's employer, Dr Beaumont, played by Tom Wilkinson, was actually eaten by a lion while visiting Africa.
