Factual error: When Holland March is swimming behind the bar with mermaids, "Get Down On It" from Kool and The gang is playing. That song did not come out until 1981 and the film is set in 1977. (00:39:50)
Other mistake: When Amy Adams leaves the spacecraft for the final time she is met by Jeremy Renner who throws a blanket around her shoulders. As he does so, the blanket gets caught on something out of view top-of-frame (presumably a boom mic) and he has to tug at it to free it. This was part of one long take in fading light and given the amount of background action going on it was presumably too difficult or time consuming to re-shoot. (01:32:55)
Visible crew/equipment: When the camera zooms in on Vee's laptop just as she is about to sign up the camera shadow can be seen increasing in size on the back of the laptop. (00:10:45)
Factual error: The film is mostly set in Moldova. Early in the film, the general remarks at one point that insurgents are near the Russian border to the north. However Moldova does not border with Russia at any point in its geography. It only borders Ukraine and Romania.
Factual error: In Istanbul the caption reads "7:53 PM" but shadows shows it is actually between 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. (01:37:50)
Continuity mistake: Blood from Tom's shirt's elbow when he is attacked by Rachel appears and disappears randomly between shots.
Plot hole: The system providing oxygen can only be accessed by someone slim. Therefore John Goodman built the bunker with him unable to access the key facility that provides oxygen in his bunker. Yet he must have been able to go and get Britney when she went to that area?
Suggested correction: It's not a plot hole because he said in the film, the normal hatch to the air filtration was blocked by something that fell on top so they couldn't get through that way.
Continuity mistake: At the oriental restaurant, Nick is telling a story about a Costarican adventure. The chopsticks on his tray change position in every shot. (00:46:00)
Continuity mistake: The cursed necklace is shown emitting its evil fumes on the white paper of the letter, but the letter itself is perfectly 90° with the envelope, or at a different angle. (00:06:20)
Factual error: During the scene when Ed the I.T. guy is working on his laptop to fix the problem with the presentation, his laptop is sitting on top of a couple of Cisco network switches with cables connected to them. The ports on the front of the switch where the cables are plugged in would have flashing lights on to show power and connectivity, as well as lights on the left-hand side of the device as we are looking at it, no lights are present which suggests it is not powered up and connected to anything. (00:06:58)
Continuity mistake: When Gina and James visit her sister, Gina sits down at the table with the family. Then in a close up with James and Ramon, Gina walks into the same room she should already be sitting in. (00:48:30)
Continuity mistake: John Biswas is tailing the little deaf girl. His scooter breaks down and he follows her on foot. They are walking in the same road in two different shots, with a cut just a few meters apart. The toys in her right hand and the paper in her left swap hands in the second shot. (00:18:20)
Revealing mistake: When the Creature is telling Louis the "Bat Story," the Creature is holding a burning torch in its right hand against a wholly-dark background. It becomes apparent that the shots of the creature are actually Dutch Angle shots (the angle of the camera is rotated about 45°), because the smoke from the torch is not rising straight upwards; rather, the smoke is rising at a 45° angle toward the upper left corner of the screen.
Continuity mistake: Maureen spent the first night in the spooky house, without conclusive results. They are meeting the prospect buyers in a bar. When Lara walks up to them and begins the conversation, the arm position of the man changes wildly between shots several times at every cut. (00:08:40)
Continuity mistake: The protagonist (Andrea Bowen) is in the car with the captain, who is debriefing her about the subjects involved in the case. Throughout the conversation, multiple times her hair covers her ears or is combed behind them, with no consistency. (00:11:20)
Continuity mistake: Throughout the movie, fire axes seem to be the weapons of choice. Only two fire axes are used, but they appear recurrently. In the very first use, the protagonists grab fire axes to butcher the monster called Beverly. Blood and gore go everywhere; yet, the axes emerge from this bloodbath with no blood or gore on the handles - they're virtually pristine moments later. The axes are used again and again, right up to the ending, and blood comes and goes from the axe handles seemingly at random.
Audio problem: The chef finally gets the bright idea to fire his hunting rifle at Morgan's fleeing vehicle. In a previous scene he was grabbing ammunition for his rifle, and he also loaded it. The rounds appeared to be high power rifle ammo, probably in the 7mm Remington magnum or .30-06 range, very common hunting rounds. When he fires his rifle it sounds quieter than a suppressed shot, however he has no suppressor on the muzzle end of his weapon. (01:09:20)
Continuity mistake: When Sook-Hee is saying goodbye to her friends, just as Kutan starts saying "It should have been me", Gugai is shown holding two babies, one with short hair on his left and one with thick hair on his right. The camera changes angles and the babies have suddenly switched places. The babies also become raised up towards his shoulder in between shots. (00:02:53)
Factual error: There are a number of historical inaccuracies with the police uniforms used. The film is set in 1880, but the Duty Armlets with the alternating short blue/white vertical stripes were not introduced until 1886 (in 1880 they would have had three horizontal white stripes separated by two narrower blue stripes). Whistles are shown being carried, but they were not introduced until 1885 (they used rattles before then). The helmet plates have a generic VR on them when they should repeat the officer's collar number (eg P 129 in the case of Constable Flood).
