Trivia: In some episodes, Rory speaks Spanish (e.g when she is talking to her grandmother's maid). She speaks very poorly, typical "school-Spanish". This is just acting; Spanish is actually Alexis Bledel's first language. Her mother is from Mexico and her father is from Argentina.
Trivia: Fran's last name is Katzenjammer, which is German for "A momentarily severe hangover". It translates literally as "cat misery".

Trivia: The boy's comment, "Everybody is kung fu fighting" at the ruined school dance, refers to Carl Douglas' song of the same name from 1974, two years before this episode takes place, following the fledging martial arts craze in America. This song has recently (in a slight variation) resurfaced in Kung Fu Panda.
Trivia: For the entire first season, the hinges on the front door are on the right and the stairs have a corner at the bottom. However in all seasons after this, the hinges on the front door are on the left and the stairs go straight down to the floor, no corner. (Some sets do sometimes change between the pilot episode and episode 2, but I have never seen something change after a whole season.)
Trivia: A number of in-joke Dr. Who references crop up throughout the series pilot. A group of doctors and scientists are introduced as Hartnell, Troughton, and Baker; there's a business card for I.
