Factual error: The opening scene of the film, with a woman singing "For Your Country and My Country" at a bond rally, is supposedly set in 1917, but her hair and clothing are pure 1940's: calf-length skirt and curled shoulder-length hair, neither of which was acceptable attire for a lady in 1917.
Factual error: When the troopships join up with the naval units, a Nevada or Pennyslvania class battleship with tripod masts is shown.however, in July 1942, Oklahoma and Arizona were sunk, and Nevada and Pennyslvania were undergoing repairs stateside.
Factual error: In the scenes set during 1918, Clive is shown wearing a typical late 1930s/WW2 military production British steel helmet with its distinctive canvas covered sprung chinstrap.
Factual error: Towards the end when Bates is talking to Sargent Gunn, before the Germans coming running to drink the water out the well, Bates is wearing DMS boots. The sole is rubber. These boots weren't issued until the late 60's. The correct boots were ammo boots with metal studs on the bottom.
Factual error: When the moon starts to rise as Larry is lying in the hospital bed, the light from the moon is shown moving from the floor up to his bed. Since the moon is appearing from the horizon, the light should be moving from the wall down to the floor.
Factual error: When Hobson is dropped off at the island of Hago whilst dressed in a German uniform, both the German sentry and the Feldwebel address him as "Hauptman" (Captain). But Hobson is wearing the collar insignia of an Oberleutnant (First Lieutenant) whilst at the same time wearing the shoulder straps of a Leutnant (Second Lieutenant). Hobson must be wearing the unique uniform of a Luftwaffe officer who holds three different ranks!
