Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Corrected entry: During Luke's story about Leia they are dueling with lightsabers. Leia has a green saber and Luke has blue. Later when Ray has both Luke and Leia's sabers, both are blue.

Correction: The saber that Rey has is Luke's first saber - which he lost in the Empire Strikes Back. He constructed a new Saber in Return of the Jedi which had a green blade.

Correction: Leia's lightsaber is blue.

Correction: I just re-watched the scene and she never blinks.

Corrected entry: The Emperor starts that if Rey kills him he will possess her and continue on in her body. She then proceeds to kill him anyway.

Correction: As Palpatine says, he wants Rey to strike him down in anger and hate, which would result in his spirit passing into her. When Rey kills him, she is not acting in hate or anger; she is defending herself, using her lightsabers to deflect the Force lightning that he unleashes on her, back at him. As Yoda states in "The Empire Strikes Back": "A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense. Never for attack."

Corrected entry: Cloning was neither "Dark Science" nor "Secrets only the Sith knew." It was a massively common practice used for decades before this movie, by both sides.

Correction: Presumably the "dark science" that is referenced has to do with cloning someone without having any of their biological matter to duplicate. Palpatine's body is entirely destroyed in Return of the Jedi, and as Poe (in an unfathomably stupid line) states "Somehow, Palpatine has returned." Cloning was obviously well known but the means to bring back Palpatine, though never explained, were secrets only the Sith knew. Somehow. It's contrived and terrible writing but that's what the lines mean.

In addition, other clones (like the clone army from 50 years earlier) were individuals who were individually taught and trained. Palpatine managed to clone himself and keep all his memories intact.

Corrected entry: When Rey returns to Tatooine to bury Luke and Leia's lightsabers in the sand, it appears that the Millennium Falcon is missing its landing gear, all that is shown on screen is the ramp and its supports, but no rear landing gear. (02:10:03)

Correction: The Falcon crashed earlier in the film because of malfunctioning landing gear, it's possible that it had not been fixed by the time Rey got to Tatooine.

How did she get out then? The Falcon's access/egress point is a ramp underneath the ship.

Corrected entry: When "Snap" Wexley climbs into his ship before the final assault, he is in an A-Wing fighter. However, when Poe calls out to him as Snap crashes, an X-Wing is shown crashing.

wizard_of_gore

Correction: Snap climbs on top of an A-Wing. He is not shown entering it or piloting it. He is also shown assisting other pilots in prepping for launch. He could easily have climbed on top of the A-Wing to help prep it for flight.

Correction: His scar fades on screen when Rey heals him on the Death Star. As she heals the wound in his stomach, she also heals the wound she gave him the year before in The Force Awakens. It's an intentional detail.

He has the faded scars since the beginning of the movie.

Scars do fade over time (and Star Wars is a universe in which you can attach an artificial limb and leave no visible marks), but they are present throughout the film.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Rey is shown for the first time while undergoing training in the forest she falls to the ground face-down. When she gets up her clothes are soiled with dirt as expected, but in all shots after that, in the same forest sequence, her clothes are perfectly clean again.

Question: How did Palpatine come back? Cloned? Or somehow survived the Death Star explosion, which seems unlikely.

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: According to the novelization, Palpatine sensed Vader's internal conflict and created a clone as a backup in the event that Vader betrayed him. When Vader threw him down the shaft, Palpatine transferred his consciousness into the clone's body.

Answer: It is not said exactly how he came back. He says that he had died before which presumably is him dying in ROTJ. The most we get is the reference to Sith ability that some consider unnatural.

It is not said how he came back, but I get the idea that he was using the Force to keep himself alive. At least that's the message I was getting when I saw that Palpatine's fingers were wilted away. And I thought that the power he was using was urging his life to go on, but his physical appearence was being dragged behind.

Answer: The line "The dark side is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural" is a direct reference to Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, in which Palpatine says the same line verbatim to Anakin. Recall that a major plot point to that prequel is that the Sith have long been rumored to have found a method to cheat death. This film strongly suggests that Palpatine had indeed discovered this method. The film doesn't go into specifics. My understanding is the novelization says his body is a clone. Going by his appearance in the film (blank eyes; body manipulated by machine), it suggests to me that he is a reanimated corpse.
