Suggested correction: It may be a 2nd film he watched after the 1959 film. This may not be in real time, just like we only see Clark in the attic for a few min but in reality the family was gone assumingly much longer than we saw on film and Clark was there longer than we see.

Continuity mistake: After Clark dedicates the Griswold Family Christmas tree and it expands, Ellen's hands are on her hips, but the next quick shot of her shows her hands clasped behind her back.

Continuity mistake: After Clark cuts the rope restraining the tree branches, Rusty is very close to the tree, but the final shot when Clark gives the "OK" sign shows Rusty about two feet from the branches.

Scott215

Continuity mistake: When they first step up to the tree in the forest, Audrey is still moving. In the overhead shot, she stops, and we can see tracks in the snow where all four have been standing. The problem is, there are a lot of tracks. We're lead to believe they just walked up to the tree.

Revealing mistake: When Snots the dog chases the squirrel into the Griswolds' dining room, he barely brushes a high-back dining chair that immediately falls on its side. If you look closely, a string attached to the the right side top of the chair can be seen tightening which then pulls the chair down.

Scott215

Continuity mistake: In the scene of Clark standing in the snow trying to figure out why his Christmas lights did not work, the paper he is holding in his right hand is mid torso to him, but in the next shot when Rusty leaves him, his right hand has instantly dropped to his side and he raises his paper-holding hand again.

Continuity mistake: When Clark, Eddie, and Catherine are admiring the Christmas lights of the Griswold house, Clark is very close to Eddie with his left arm draped over Eddie's shoulder, but the next quick cut to Clark when he says, "Eddie?", shows Clark further away and his left arm at his side, and not stretched out.

Scott215

Revealing mistake: The stunt double for Nicholas Guest is obvious after Julia-Louis Dreyfus punches him. The hair style of the stunt double is different from Nicholas Guest's hair, which is heavily slicked back.

Scott215

Continuity mistake: In the Christmas dinner scene, closeups of Rocky show his right hand raised to his face, but the overhead shots do not.

Scott215

Continuity mistake: After Mr. Shirley tells Clark he will get a bonus plus twenty percent, Catherine, Rocky, and Ruby Sue cheer and get up from the couch to mingle with the relatives while Rusty and Audrey respond excitedly. There is a close up reaction shot of Clark as he begins falling, then a long shot of Clark falling to the floor as Catherine, Rocky, Ruby Sue, Audrey and Rusty are in their original positions on the couch, calmly watching Clark fall.

Scott215

Continuity mistake: After the tree burns, Rusty says, "Dad's gonna flip out." Clark Sr.'s left elbow is close to and behind Rusty's head, but in the next instant shot of Rusty, Ellen, and Audrey, Clark Sr.'s elbow is not there.

Scott215

Continuity mistake: The retractable attic staircase is a type held closed only by light spring pressure, not a latch, but it doesn't budge when Clark jumps on it. When he initially opened it, and later when his wife does the same, it opens normally with a light tug from below on the cord.

Visible crew/equipment: After the cat is electrocuted and begins smoking underneath the chair, the next camera angle still has the smoke machine in the shot next to the chair.

Adam Hurd

Continuity mistake: When the family is on the front lawn to inaugurate the Christmas lights, between shots a blue Lincoln at the curb disappears and a station wagon appears across the street.

Visible crew/equipment: When Eddie and Clark are putting the burned chair in the garbage, you can see the shadow of the camera following them.

Continuity mistake: When Aunt Bethany asks "Do you hear it?", she leans forward in her chair. In the next shot she's suddenly sitting back, and leans forward again when she says, "It's a funny squeaky sound."

Scott215

Revealing mistake: When Julia Louis-Dreyfus has the dog jump on her, you can tell it's a stunt double. In the shot of Julia, the gem on the back of her sequence dress and her hair doesn't go below the gem. When Snot is about to jump on her, the hair completely covers the gem and is much fuller and looks like a wig.

Other mistake: When Clarke and Eddy are drinking eggnog by the tree, and Snots is drinking the tree water, look at the tree's trunk. It's a birch tree not a pine.

Todd: Hey, Griswold. Where do you think you're gonna put a tree that big?
Clark: Bend over and I'll show you.
Todd: You've got a lot of nerve talking to me like that, Griswold.
Clark: I wasn't talking to you.

Question: Was there a deleted scene where Cathrine and Ellen were talking while making the turkey in the kitchen and/or doing something resulting in the bird being "overdone" totally and showing up in the scene at dinner causing the turkey to literally explode in a cloud of dust when carved by Clark? It just seems there was a scene missing there!

Answer: YES! You are 100% correct about the deleted turkey-cooking scene! Both my husband and I remember this scene. It was Catherine and Eddie that cooked the turkey to thank Clark and his family for being hospitable. They had never cooked a turkey before and they thought cooking it at a low temperature for a LONG time would be ideal. It looked great, but completely dehydrated. THIS is why Catherine is so upset when the turkey pops open and steams - she ruined the turkey for everyone.

Answer: I have a DVD with the exploding turkey scene It's a classic.

Answer: There was never a scene as described in the film, nor was there anything in any of the special features. Also, there is no mention of it in any of the commentary.

Answer: I also remember vividly the scene where Catherine is cooking the turkey and have been trying to get a copy of the film where that scene is not deleted. Also checked with my wife, she recalls it too. I think we might have seen it on a very early VHS or LaserDisc version.
