Corrected entry: The Germans on the ship should've opened fire on the beach when they saw the battle going on. No reason is given why they didn't.

Rob245

Correction: Perhaps they didn't want to fire on their own troops as the ship started capsizing. Not an ideal scenario in which to try and accurately target enemies on a beach.

Well in every war America's been in cannons are firing even as troops are engaged on the battlefield. This was also quite risky and necessary, hence why I brought this up.

Rob245

It is not customary to fire on your own troops. Not in any war. Highly rarely it is inevitable, but not in this scenario.

lionhead

That is not standard practice, and the ship was sinking at the same time. The crew had other things to worry about.

Corrected entry: The plane Steve Trevor steals and later crashes into the ocean, a Fokker Eindecker E/2, would not have been in service in late 1918. The E/2 type was retired from service in early 1916. Only 42 were built and only two Eindeckers survived the war's end.

GillBill

Correction: There is a lot of speculation with this entry. While only 42 Eindecker E2 variants were built, 249 Eindecker E3 variants were built. Many of the E2 models were upgraded to E3 models. The design differences between the two were internal to the aircraft as well as a slight increase in wing size and windscreen size, none of which can be accurately ascertained from the movie, so it's speculation as to whether the aircraft Steve steals is an E2 or an E3 variant. Furthermore, Fokker stopped production in 1916, which is not the same as retired from service. Germany began to actively replace the Eindeckers in 1917 but there is no known official record as to all Eindeckers being completely removed from all roles prior to the end of the war.

Correction: It's not 1918 at that time.

Corrected entry: Ares as the God of War always wanted people fighting as he revelled in this. This change up of him wanting all people dead makes no sense.

Rob245

Correction: (1) The writers are allowed to alter characters and motivations. They don't have to stick with the rules of the original mythological figure. (2) Ares also explicitly states that he wants to eradicate humanity through war (which is kind of his thing, anyways) because it will help earth return to the "paradise" it was before them, so he has a clear motivation. He hates humans and wants the world to return to what it once was before they arrived, and as the god of war, he wants to use war to destroy them. It makes perfect sense in the context of this story even if it doesn't fit in with the classic mythological figure.

Corrected entry: Both Diana and Steve go to sleep on the sailboat at the same time. Who is making sure that they stay on course? Navigating a sailboat is vastly different than a power boat, which is why someone is always "on watch" to make sure the boat stays on course. If they're both asleep they could end up anywhere.

wizard_of_gore

Correction: Many people have sailed solo around the world, and presumably they sleep at some point during the voyage. The tiller can be locked into position to keep it on course for short periods of time.

raywest

Corrected entry: When Diana and Steve are down in the no man's land trench and Diana climbs out of it as Wonder Woman how did she get her sword and shield so fast? She wasn't carrying them.

Correction: She was carrying them beneath her coat.

MasterOfAll

Corrected entry: When the German Empire's soldiers are attacking Themyscira in the Mediterranean, one of their rowboats has the ship's name "Schwaben" printed on its side. The "Schwaben" at the time of the movie was a barge on patrol duty on Lake Victoria in back-then German East Africa.

Correction: Since a lot of elements of WWI are different in this universe, a ship that is out of place is not strange.

lionhead

Corrected entry: Steve Trevor flies into the German occupation on a German plane and without any sort of identification or documentation or other proof, they all just believe he is one of them and trust him without hesitation.

wizard_of_gore

Correction: We never see him hand over documentation, but he is an embedded spy, it's highly likely that there were forged papers there. Now, even if there weren't any, documentation was far less rigorous back in 1918 then it is today. Flying in on a German plane well behind the front probably would be enough to not raise eyebrows.

Friso94

Corrected entry: Steve Trevor takes off in a plane from a base that is inland inside of Turkey. Since radar didn't exist for another 20 or so years and since no other planes took off immediately after he did, how were the Germans (especially naval forces) able to track and follow him?

Correction: Easy. They radio ahead, and tell them to shoot any plane out of the sky.

MasterOfAll

Corrected entry: Steve crashes through the barrier and is followed through by a ship and several rowing boats. In the background the ship has run aground, and after the fight on the beach the ship and its crew are never mentioned or seen again, although Steve spends several days on the island.

Correction: Just because it is not mentioned, does not mean the Amazonians did not deal with it and its crew.

Corrected entry: Steve would have been more affected by the mustard gas when he went to the village, he would have suffered longer effects than just coughing and then being completely fine when he walks away.

Correction: That wasn't mustard gas. That's the new hydrogen-based gas. It apparently does not have any lingering affects, the way mustard gas does, if a person survives long enough to escape it.

Phixius

Corrected entry: Diana was sculpted from clay by her mother, and Hades, her former lover. Aphrodite then breathed life into the statue. She was not born in the usual sense. Ignoring above and assuming she is in fact the daughter of Zeus (or Hades), this would make Ares her uncle. Not her brother as she says in the film.

Correction: This entry is doubly wrong - first off, the film states that Diana's origin story is different than it was in the original comics, so here, Hippolyta told her she was made from clay and all that, when in reality, she was made the old fashioned way by Zeus and Hippolyta. Basically, the movie radically streamlines her comic book origin story, just like the first Thor movie did. Second, what is true in mythology would not necessarily translate one on one to the movie, and the movie mentions during the storytelling scene at the beginning that Ares is Zeus' son.

Friso94

Well I do think she was made from clay and turned to life by Zeus, that still makes her Zeus' daughter. A demigod. Technically Ares is her half-brother.

lionhead

Correction: The comic book origins don't necessarily apply to the films.

Greg Dwyer

Correction: Themyscira has been around for thousands of years, protected by the dome. Travel was much more difficult in the centuries before World War One. Steve Trevor needed a plane to get there.

Corrected entry: When Steve and Diana leave the island at night they fall asleep on the boat. The next morning they're in London, being towed up the Thames. Impossible, as Steve said he flew from Turkey when he escaped with the book - you can't travel that distance in one night by boat.

Correction: They never specify it is a single night. All we know is that they arrived in London while Diana was sleeping.

Corrected entry: When Diana and Steve sail from Themyscira to London, the sails on the boat just hang there, indicating that there is no wind. Sailboats need wind to move and the sails need periodic adjustment depending on from which direction the wind is coming.

wizard_of_gore

Correction: In the sequence at night there's no wind, but nor are they moving much - that's sailing for you - if there's no wind you just need to wait and hope. After another scene we then see them arriving in London, with a taught rope off the bow, a steamboat in front clearly towing them, and Steve says "we got lucky, we caught a ride and made some good time".

Correction: The sailboat is attached to a steamship or similar in front. That's why Steve said they made some good time.

I just watched the film again. There is no steamship. Where would it have come from?

wizard_of_gore

As they sail into London they're being towed by a steamship.

Jon Sandys

There's no indication the boat is under any form of power other than the sails.

Ssiscool

Corrected entry: When Steve is bathing after the first fight on the island, he has a bandage on his shoulder suggesting a wound, but his shirt is not torn at the shoulder.

Correction: He could have been wounded in such a way that did not damage his clothing - a severely strained muscle or torn ligament, a deep bruise from a blunt force impact, etc.

raywest

Corrected entry: When the Germans invade Themyscira, the destroyer can be seen behind the small boats entering the protective screen, but after the German troops from the small boats are killed by the Amazons, the destroyer is never seen again, nor does it fire any shots to support the troops.

chengchoi

Correction: The destroyer is seen beginning to capsize as it enters the barrier. We don't see it again because it sunk.

Phixius

Corrected entry: At the end in the tower Diana has the perfect opportunity to kill who she thinks is Aries with the God Killer Sword. When he turns his back to sniff the contents of the vial. She comes up behind him but for some reason doesn't run him through with the sword.

Correction: She does move to thrust her sword into him but she is too late and he turns around again. You can see she is ready to strike in the next shot.

lionhead

Other mistake: Field Marshal Haig is listed in the credits as Field Marshall Haig. This spelling (with two Ls) is only ever a surname, not a rank or job title.

Question: If Amazons are immortal and never age then how can Diana grow up there?

Rob245

Answer: It would be more accurate to say they grow to a certain age then stop aging. Similar to the elves in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.

jimba

Answer: They may never grow old, but they are not immortal since we see some die.

Answer: Diana is unlike the other Amazon women, so her physiology differs. In mythology, Amazon women were demigods - half human and half god. Diana's mother, Hippolyta, crafted her from clay and Zeus gave her life. Diana grew from an infant into adulthood, then, like the other Amazons, becomes either immortal or long-lived.

raywest

Answer: Thank you both.
