Correction: Not so. It is at the discretion of both the Prosecuting and Defense Attorney whom they seat on the jury and whom they excuse, taking into consideration the type of trial, nature of the offense and credibility of the juror. My father is a retired police officer and was called for jury duty and seated three times during and after his tenure with the police department.

Correction: Your DNA has to be on record for them to immediately know who you are. If it's not, then they have to take a sample from you and match the two up, and they can't even force you to provide a DNA sample without sufficient evidence pointing toward you. Apparently the killer didn't have a sample of his DNA on record.

Correction: Monk has always lived in an apartment building.

The apartment can be seen on Google Earth - 999 Broadway St. SF.

Mr. Monk Bumps His Head - S4-E11

Corrected entry: It's late at night when Roger is stung by hundreds of bees at the lookout point. But bees (both the European and Africanized varieties) are not active in late night hours. They're diurnal (active only during the day). Unless something breaks into their hive, which doesn't happen here, they don't fly or swarm at night. (00:42:00)

Correction: Maybe it is early in the morning and did he not drop the waitress's body down lookout point? Also the body could very well have triggered the bees and the hornets.

Correction: Implied is different from being fact. It is important to either show clear evidence or prove the contradiction.

Mr. Monk and the Secret Santa - S4-E9

Corrected entry: The title of the episode does not match the plot, since in the show the gifts are not given secretly. As the name suggests "secret Santa" is when the identity of the person giving the gift is secret. In the episode, the names are drawn out of a hat and are then handed by the person giving the gift to the recipient. The identity of the giver is not secret. More correct would be "randomly allocated Santa".

Correction: The gift exchange itself was not a secret, but the murderer sent the bottle of port to Stottlemeyer under a fake business name. The murderer was the Secret Santa.

SJActress

Correction: Actually it would be called secret Santa because the identity of the giver is not known until the gift is given. The game is called secret Santa because it is a secret who Santa is until the gift is given. In different areas of the country it is done and named differently. Some you must even guess who gave you the gift, which I think would have been a more interesting plot but probably too long to make.

Mr. Monk Bumps His Head - S4-E11

Corrected entry: Debbie's pet bird is called a parakeet, but it's a much larger exotic bird. It's unlike Monk, whose other OCD eccentricities and obscure knowledge are in full force despite his amnesia, not to know the difference. Monk may not know every rare species by name, but parakeets (aka budgerigars) are household pets common enough that anyone would know Debbie's bird isn't one. Monk definitely would have known.

Jean G

Correction: The term parakeet is used to describe any small-medium parrot species, like Debbie's bird, not just the commonly owned household budgerigar. Monk's identification was correct.

Mr. Monk Goes to Jail - S2-E16

Factual error: Death row prisoners cannot donate organs. No doctor participates in an execution and after the lethal injection the medical examiner must wait at least fifteen minutes to test for cardiac activity before pronouncing the prisoner dead. This is enough time for hypoxia to render the heart, lungs and kidneys useless for transplant. Apart from this, organs intended for transplant must be removed within minutes of the death of the donor. Prisoners are not executed in operating theatres.

Mr. Monk Goes to Mexico - S2-E2

Trivia: According to co-producer Tom Scharpling, the Mexican homicide cops are purposely written as parodies of Stottlemeyer and Disher, right down to their attitudes, their ranks, their suits, and Captain Alameda's mustache. Even the bumbling lieutenant's name is a little joke on Disher. Plato means "dish" in Spanish.

Show generally

Question: If Monk is afraid of germs, then why does he keep touching things that could possibly have germs on them like parking meters or books?

Answer: Notice also that in the opening credits scene when he is touching parking meters her also wipes his hand on his clothes each time he does it.

Answer: That's the thing about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It's not something rational. He just has to touch things like that. It's not something he can rationally think through. However, since part of his disorder includes an obsession with cleanliness, he also has an assistant walk around handing him wipes periodically. It's like when he gets a cold and uses both a humidifier (because that's what you use when you're congested) and a dehumidifier (to counteract the effects of the humidifier). He may spout rationalizations after he does something, but his compulsions exist outside of any rational thought whatever.
